Ganchkori ( گچبری )

Ganch carving is relief work in gypsum plaster, carved directly into walls, ceilings, and archways by hand and, where appropriate, by machine. It is among the oldest decorative techniques of the region, developed over centuries in the workshops of Sogdia.

At Kodiri, ganch carving is practiced according to the same principles passed down through our lineage of masters - precise geometry, patient layering, and an understanding of the material that comes only through years at the bench.

Primary application: walls, ceilings, and archways.

Naqqoshi ( نقاشی )

Naqqoshi is the art of hand-painted ornamentation, applied to plaster, wood, and ceiling surfaces in combinations of floral, geometric, and calligraphic motifs. Traditionally, each regional school developed its own palette and pattern language, passed from master to student.

Our firm continues this practice as a living art rather than a decorative formula, adapting historical patterns to each project while preserving the discipline of the original technique.

Primary application: ceilings and interior wall surfaces.

Muqarnas ( مقرنس )

Muqarnas is a system of tiered vaulting built up in successive geometric layers, used to transition domes, niches, and entryways from one architectural form to another. It is among the most technically demanding elements of Islamic architecture, requiring exact structural and geometric calculation.

We design and construct muqarnas both for historic restoration and for new architectural commissions, applying traditional geometry alongside the structural standards required of contemporary buildings.

Primary application: domes, niches, and entryways.

Mo'araq ( معرق )

Cut-tile mosaic is a facade technique in which glazed ceramic tiles are cut into individual shards and assembled by hand into geometric and arabesque compositions — the same discipline behind the great facades of Samarkand. It ranks among the most exacting forms of the craft, as each fragment must be shaped precisely enough to hold its place within the pattern.

At Kodiri, facade work is developed with the same rigor as our interior specializations, so that a building's exterior carries the same vocabulary of ornament as the spaces within it.

Primary application: exterior facades and portals.
